Tuchel, the man who asked to stay...? 'Intentions to stay in Munich' 0%
With Thomas Tuchel's decision to leave Bayern Munich next season, the Bavarians have begun the search for their next manager early. Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann were among the leading candidates, but both recently decided to stay at their current clubs, leaving the Bavarians in a difficult position. The possibility of an "extension" with Tuchel has been raised, but Tuchel has no intention of staying in Munich.
According to European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel was recently asked if he would extend his stay at Munich. "I have an agreement with the club to part ways in June," he said, "but I have no intention of changing my mind. It was already communicated and it won't change," he said.
Tuchel took over at Munich last season as Nagelsmann's successor. Under difficult circumstances, Tuchel won the Bundesliga title and was aiming for even greater heights in the new season. He brought in Tottenham Hotspur's "living legend" Harry Kane, as well as the Italian Serie A Defender of the Year, Kim Min-Jae.
That's how Tuchel started the new season. But it hasn't been an easy road. Munich failed to lift the trophy, losing to Leipzig in the Supercup. They were also eliminated from the Pokal and finished runners-up in the league. Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen went on a meteoric rise, going unbeaten in 44 matches and clinching the league title early.
Eventually, Tuchel announced midway through the season that he was "parting ways" with Munich - not immediately, but after the end of this season.
Munich then began the search for their next coach. Several coaches were mentioned as possible candidates, with Alonso being the favorite. However, he chose to stay. The new Munich hierarchy thought highly of Nagelsmann's abilities and wanted to bring him back.
However, that didn't happen either. Nagelsmann recently extended his contract with the German national team. The German Football Federation (DFB) announced today that "Nagelsmann will remain head coach of the German national team after Euro 2024. This was decided by the Supervisory Board and the General Meeting of Shareholders of DFB GmbH & Co. KG on Friday of this week," the organization announced.
Two of Munich's top candidates have been removed from the list. This raised the possibility of extending Tuchel's stay. However, Tuchel has already made up his mind and will not change his mind.
