Tottenham interested in 'Kim Minjae's teammate' Gnabry

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry to bolster their attack next season.

"Tottenham are now serious about signing the former Arsenal star, who earns £310,000 a week, and manager Anzhi Postecoglou is also interested," Football Fancast reported on Tuesday.

The former Arsenal star mentioned by the media is Serge Gnabry, who currently plays for Bayern Munich. The German winger came through the Arsenal youth ranks and made his professional debut in 2012 at the age of 18.

However, he didn't make much of an impact at Arsenal. A promising youngster, Gnabry scored one goal and provided two assists in 18 appearances. He spent time in the youth leagues and on loan at West Bromwich before leaving for Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga in 2016.

After his move to Bremen, he slowly started to show his potential. In his first season with the club, he scored his first double-digit points with 11 goals and two assists in 27 league appearances. In 2017-18, he moved to TSG Hoffenheim, where he continued to perform well, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in 22 games.

He went on to play for Germany's most prestigious club, Bayern Munich. After scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in the league in his first year, he reached his peak in the 2019-20 season. He finished with 12 goals and 11 assists in the league, posting a single-season record of 10-10, and he was equally impressive in the UEFA Champions League, scoring nine goals in 10 games. He was particularly impressive against Tottenham in the group stage that season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in Munich's 7-2 victory.

However, his form has been disappointing since 2020, as he has been hampered by injuries and a poor ratio of offense to defense. This season, he missed most of the first half of the season due to injury, and in December he suffered a muscle injury that kept him out until early March.

Eventually, Munich labeled Gnabry as available for sale. According to Germany's Aventurer Zeitung, Munich have eight players in mind for sale this summer, and Gnabry is one of them.

In the midst of this, Tottenham have made a move to bolster their offense by bringing in Gnabry from arch-rivals Arsenal, where he led them to a 2-7 record five years ago.

"Offensively, Spurs have been praised for their new pressing style under Postecoglou this season," says Football Fancast, "but as we saw in their 0-4 defeat at Newcastle United, they still have many flaws. They are facing the possibility of losing fourth place to Aston Villa and missing out on Champions League qualification next season," explaining that Spurs are in need of reinforcements.

"Regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League or not, Postecoglou will be supported in the transfer market and Spurs' top priority is to sign a new striker," he added.

"Spurs have sent their scouts to the Bundesliga to look at a number of talents, which has led to their interest in Gnabry, along with Serge Giroud and Victor Boniface," he said, adding that "Tottenham have identified Gnabry as their new target."

It will be interesting to see if Gnabry will leave Kim Min-jae's side to assist Son Heung-min at Spurs.
